Catalogo ragionato
Il Catalogo Ragionato di Turi Simeti, realizzato dall’Archivio Turi Simeti e curato da Antonio Addamiano e Federico Sardella, rappresenta la più importante pubblicazione dedicata all’artista e al suo percorso artistico finora pubblicata ed è stato stampato nella primavera del 2017 da Skira Editore.
Ideato con la diretta collaborazione dell’artista e con la supervisione di Essila Burello, pubblicato in due volumi, il Catalogo Ragionato offre un resoconto per lo più inedito di oltre cinquant’anni di lavoro di uno dei protagonisti dell’astrazione italiana del dopoguerra.
La stampa del Catalogo Ragionato di Turi Simeti, che comprende più di milleottocento opere su tela realizzate a partire dal 1960, oltre a fare il punto su quanto registrato presso l’Archivio Turi Simeti, offre uno spaccato insolito su una produzione apparentemente lineare che, al suo interno, riserva invece continue e inattese scoperte.
Il primo tomo si presenta come una monografia ragionata che, in una scansione cronologica che procede di anno in anno e propone una visione aperta e a lungo raggio, colloca intenzionalmente l’opera di Turi Simeti all’interno del panorama artistico internazionale, con l’ausilio di un ricco apparato iconografico che illustra non solo le opere, ma anche numerosi documenti inediti conservati presso lo studio dell’artista, quali lettere, scritti, manifesti, inviti e testimonianze fotografiche dei lavori inseriti in contesti espositivi personali o collettivi.
Oltre a una serie di informazioni dettagliate riguardanti il percorso artistico, le esposizioni e la bibliografia di Turi Simeti, il primo tomo contiene un’introduzione dei curatori, un lungo saggio di Federico Sardella e una nutrita antologia di contributi critici e di scritti dell’artista relativi alle sue tipiche opere a rilievo e ai progetti installativi o monumentali.
Il secondo tomo, organizzato cronologicamente, raduna le opere registrate presso l’Archivio Turi Simeti fino al 2016. Un’importante operazione di identificazione e schedatura dei dipinti in esso compresi fa sì che il volume si offra come imprescindibile ed esaustivo strumento di conoscenza del lavoro dell’artista, che ha preso in esame personalmente tutti i documenti e le immagini pubblicate.

The Catalogue Raisonné of Turi Simeti, produced by the Archivio Turi Simeti and edited by Antonio Addamiano and Federico Sardella, represents the most important publication dedicated to the artist and his artistic career published to date and was printed in the Spring of 2017 by Skira Editore.
Conceived with the direct collaboration of the artist and supervised by Essila Burello, published in two volumes, the Catalogue Raisonné offers a mostly unpublished account of more than fifty years of work and commitment on the part of one of the leading protagonists of Italian post-war abstract research.
Comprising more than one thousand and eight hundred works on canvas created since 1960, besides taking stock of what has been registered with the Archivio Turi Simeti the publication of this Catalogue Raisonné offers an unusual perspective of an artistic production that is apparently linear but which instead embodies continuous and unexpected surprises and discoveries.
The first volume is a methodical monograph. With a chronological ‘scansion’ from year to year, with the help of a wealth of iconographic material that illustrates not only the works but also presents numerous hitherto unpublished documents conserved in the artist’s studio (letters, writings, manifestos, invitations and photographic testimonies of the works inserted in the context of solo or group exhibitions), the volume proposes an extensive and far-ranging perspective that intentionally places the work by Turi Simeti inside the international artistic panorama.
Together with copious detailed information regarding the development of his artistic career, the exhibitions and the bibliography of Turi Simeti, the first volume contains an introduction by the curators, a long essay by Federico Sardella and an extensive anthology of both critical contributions and writings by the artist treating his typical relief works and his installation or monumental projects.
Organized chronologically, the second volume presents the works registered by the Archivio Turi Simeti until 2016. Besides being an important operation of identification and cataloguing of the paintings registered in the Archive, it is an essential and exhaustive instrument for fully getting an in-depth knowledge of Simeti’s work (and here the artist personally examined all of the published documents, photographs and images).
